Another damn overreaction

swine flu girl in maskAs people line the walls of the pediatric ER, I can’t help but laugh. For the next few weeks … maybe months, every sniffle, cough or sneeze will be treated as a symptom of the swine flu.

Overreaction?

Every media outlet across the globe is focused on this freakin’ pig disease! All I can do is remind everyone about SARS and the avian flu. Or, what about Hurricane Katrina?

If you believed everything you read about those, the human race would no longer exist at this very moment. Let me not discredit the devastation that these illnesses and disasters caused to communities across the globe. However, the simple fact is that the death tolls never reached the predicted numbers … not even close.

Why is this strain of flu any different than any other?

swine flu pigIt’s not! I am not sure how this has become a pandemic. This is absolutely ridiculous. If you compare the number of deaths worldwide from swine flu to the number of deaths from seasonal influenza in this same year, the numbers would pale in comparison. So, why is the media and our government making such a big deal out of this pig flu? Good question … If you figure out the answer, let me know.

Media hype is nothing new …

I am not sure what is happening to our media. What happened to fairness in reporting? Why can’t journalists just present the facts? Why must our media paint this atmosphere of fear?

It disturbs me that every situation that gets a little out of hand ends up becoming a global sensation. Why choose to focus on something like this? You are supposed to be the checks and balance of our government … where were you for the last eight years when we really needed you?

The economy has suffered enough. Give it a break for a moment! I can’t wait to see the impact of swine flu …

Yes, the media HAS hyped up this event! There have been 3 or 4 news conferences on OUR local news alone, and all over the 2 cases of UNconfirmed swine flu.

I listened out of curiosity this morning (830 showing), and all he really had to say (and kept repeating) was that swine flu is VERY MILD….but here we are closing all the schools down for the weekend?

I’ll be honest, I worry about getting sick, but I don’t worry about catching swine flu anymore than another illness, mostly all due to being so pregnant. I know that a high fever can harm a baby, and I don’t want to put that strain on Camilla!

I’ve decided to ban the news, and go to weather channel for the weather!!!!!

Yes, being pregnant has its share of concerns when it comes to health. Stay away from pigs and birds and you should be okay :)
