An inferior race
I often wonder why humans continue on a downward spiral towards stupidity and laziness. I have a new theory on why this is happening.
Setting the scene …
Advances in technology and medicine are making humans live longer at diminished levels of health (and intelligence). As a result, the rest of the population is having to work harder and sacrifice to keep these people alive longer. The healthy are dealing with higher costs for gas, taxes, health care, food (not to mention chemically grown food to provide for more mouths), education, clothing, shelter, etc. Read more

The human brain … what a dumb invention!

5 commentsVideo game addicts
I was horrified when I saw the top story on Yahoo the other day: http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/seven-ways-to-win-back-your-gaming-spouse/1194632.
This is pathetic advice and no woman should have to go to these extremes to save a marriage. No man is worth this sort of behavior. If he has completely lost touch with reality and is living in the World of Warcraft, he needs to stay there and she needs to get out of that marriage immediately. Video games may be his addiction today … what tomorrow?
My wonderful airport painting
People painted across a vast landscape of stores, restaurants and planes …
The airport may not be the most picturesque place to watch people, but the fluorescent lights definitely illuminate the many lives that walk past the numbering system that we all have grown to associate with flying.
The Atlanta Airport is the melting pot of civilization. Every state and nearly every country is represented.
4 commentsBeing human is a complicated gig
Since I love to quote “Northern Exposure,” I am going to run with one of my favorite lines …
“There’s a dark side to each and every human soul. We wish we were Obi-Wan Kenobi, and for the most part we are, but there’s a little Darth Vadar in all of us. Thing is, this ain’t no either/or proposition. We’re talking about dialectics, the good and the bad merging into us. You can run but you can’t hide. My experience? Face the darkness, stare it down. Own it. As brother Nietzsche said, being human is a complicated gig. Give that old dark night of the soul a hug. Howl the eternal yes!”
As humans, we have created such complicated lives for ourselves. We are an “advanced” species (this is still up for debate) that thrives on power, money, sex and time. As a result, we find ourselves in a web of greed forever seeking “happiness.”
What is this happiness?

The sick music obsession shows its ugly head …
I remember the day clearly, because it changed my life forever. Almost two years ago to this day, I spent $300 I didn’t have on an iPod.
It was beautiful. I loved it more than I loved myself. It went everywhere with me and consumed every minute of my evenings and weekends. I downloaded music 24 hours a day. I left my computer on all day and night in hopes that my 6,000+ songs would soon be in my hands.
3 commentsAre we getting dumber?
With technology breaking the bounds of time and scientists making new discoveries every day, I would like to think the answer is no.
Technology and laziness …
It is human instinct to want to turn the mind off every once and a while, but I can’t help but wonder if we have taken it too far and used it as an excuse to be lazy.
5 commentsBehind the wheel
In a world that continues to evolve, I often long for a moment I can control. This moment is mine each time I get behind the wheel of my car.
The smell of cheap plastic …

More than a decade ago, the ticket to freedom was handed to me by a clerk in the driver’s license bureau in Huntsville. I did not realize it at the time, but this woman was equipping me with a beautiful gift. Instead, I saw it as a right of passage. I did not want to drive.
Cool air makes me happy
From Wikipedia …
In 1928, Willis Haviland Carrier developed the first residential ‘Weathermaker’, an air conditioner for private home use.
I admire anyone who has lived without an air conditioner for more than two weeks - not just any two weeks, but two of the hottest weeks that the summer has to offer.
I have air conditioning once again! I have returned to the ranks of the rest of the human race. I am no longer drowning in a pool of my own sweat. My cats are no longer panting like salivating dogs.
The coolness is my salvation. With cool, air comes sanity. I feel so alive!
